It is necessary to enable SMTP Authentication (or SMTP Auth) in your email client (the software on your computer that you use to send and receive email) in order to send email through your server. Below are instructions on how to set up SMTP Authentication in several of the most popular email clients. If you do not see your email client listed here, we recommend checking with the software maker or the software’s documentation for specific instructions.
(If any messages were rejected you will need to resend them after making the fix below)
To enable SMTP Authentication in MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2010:
1) Mail in Outlook 2010: File tab –> Click “Account Settings” –> Click “Account Settings” (yes it has a popup with the same name.
2) Select the account you wish to modify by double clicking the name.
3) Then click the button “More Settings…” on the lower right hand corner.
4) Select the tab “Outgoing Server” and check the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”, leave the other setting on this tab set as defaulted.
5) Then select the tab “Advanced” and change the “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” port number from 25 to 587
6) Click OK, then Next and Finish
To enable SMTP Authentication in MICROSOFT OUTLOOK (98-2007) or OUTLOOK EXPRESS:
1) Go to the Account Properties screen and edit the properties of your account.
2) From the Servers tab, look towards the bottom of the dialog box in the section marked “Outgoing mail server” and click the check-box that is marked “My server requires authentication”, then make sure the box marked “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” is also checked.
3) On the Advanced tab, ensure that in the Server Port Numbers section, the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port is 587.
To enable SMTP Authentication in MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD:
1) From the Tools menu select Account Settings. The Account Settings box appears.
2) In the white area on the left, select the entry Outgoing Server (SMTP). The Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings appear on the right.
3) Verify that the Use name and password box is checked. Click on the box to check it, if it is not checked.
4) In the User Name box enter your username as given when your account was created. This is NOT you full email address.
5) Click the OK button on the bottom. Authentication has now been enabled. Please note, you will be prompted for your password the first time that you send email. Be sure to check the box Use Password Manager to remember the password, to avoid having to enter it every time that you send email.
To enable SMTP Authentication in MAC MAIL / APPLE MAIL:
1) From the Mail menu choose Preferences
2) On the lower right corner of the window, click on Server Settings… (under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)). If this option is not visible, make sure you have the correct mail account selected, and that the Accounts and Account Information tabs are selected.
3) Pull down the Authentication menu and select Password.
4) Enter your username and password and Click OK.
You should now be able to send email without problem.
